Third Annual Beechwood Hills Food Drive
This recent notification below is from Athens-Clarke County Planning Department. Rezoning is planned for the property in and around the old Kroger shopping center on Broad Street west of Alps Road, that in recent years has been anchored by a fitness center. The plot appears to back up to three or four residential lots on Riverhill, as well as Talmadge Terrace and Lanier Gardens.
For more information, or to comment publicly, plan to attend the Planning Commission at 7pm at City Hall on October 2.
For questions and concerns, get in touch with our 10th District Commissioner, Mike Hamby, who’s contact info is available on the Athens-Clarke County web site.

In addition, music faculty and students from Emmanuel College and UGA, spirituals with Samuel Morris, and the music of “Making Strange” by Patti Paige and Eddie dePeterse will be heard. Just a reminder that Leaf & Limb pickup is scheduled for the week of August 11-15. Good time to set them out by the curb if you have not already.
As I write this on a Wednesday, our Thursday trash and recycling pickup is right upon us. Since there are so many more recyclable items lately, we are usually rolling out a larger volume of items to be recycled than trash on Wednesday evening. If you’re not sure what qualifies as recycling, Athens Clarke County has this current helpful handout. For additional details, more info is on the ACC web site.
If you still are using the small blue or green recycling bins, the larger green rollcarts are still available at not cost. This is referred to as single stream recycling. There’s no sorting of items needed, just fill the bin up and roll it to the curb. Athens Clarke County Recycling will deliver to your home at no charge. Get all the info here.
Our annual Beechwood Hills Neighborhood Picnic will be on Saturday, July 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. We will be in the park/playground area next to Central Presbyterian Church at the corner of Beechwood Drive and Pine Valley Drive. All Beechwood residents are welcome.
The Neighborhood Association will provide plates, cups, utensils, drinks, condiments, as well as veggie burgers and hot dogs for grilling.
You bring a side dish or dessert, a lawn chair or blanket, and a summer smile! Hope to see you there!
